Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes, is a condition that impairs the body's ability to process blood glucose, otherwise known as blood sugar.
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) or adult-onset diabetes is a more prevalent category caused by a combination of insulin resistance and inadequate insulin secretory responses and functions.
T2DM is asymptomatic as its progression causes hyperglycemia, which triggers pathological and functional changes in target tissues. Patients with T2DM and T1DM are at risk of developing micro- and macro-vascular complications. These are associated with atherosclerotic disease affecting arteries that supply blood to the heart and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in which death from myocardial infarction and strokes is the leading cause of mortality in T1DM and T2DM patients. Patients with T2DM are subjected to a non-insulin-based therapy and in some patients with T2DM; the insulin requirements are similar to those with T1DM necessitating daily injections for long-acting insulin during mealtimes
Injection of MSCs has not only been found to be effective in improving the functions of the pancreas but also healed related symptoms like diabetic foot and neuropathy. The main limitation posed by MSCs is their potential to differentiate into unwanted mesenchymal lineages, which can be detrimental to their therapeutic applications.
Why mesenchymal stem cells treatment?
Allogeneic stem cells can be administered multiple times over the course of days in uniform dosages, they are immune system privileged, cell rejection is not an issue and Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) matching is not necessary.
No need to collect stem cells from the patient’s hip bone or fat under anesthesia, which especially for small children and their parents, can be an unpleasant ordeal.
No need to administer chemotherapy drugs like granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF or GCSF) to stimulate the bone marrow to produce granulocytes and stem cells and release them into the bloodstream.
These are promising and positive results indeed and our patients will have an available solution for combating ageing-related conditions and improved quality of life.
Results of the therapy always depend on a condition and individual profile. Expected improvements:
